Earth and World Water Day

Community Stewardship with the RCD

Heidi Petty, Watershed Program Manager

World Water Day is March 22nd,2023. This year, the theme of World Water Day is “accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.” You see - although we use, play in, admire, and drink water every day; it is so ingrained in our daily lives that we forget about its essential value. So, in turn, we create days, months, and events to remind us of what a treasure our water is in our lives. Water is indeed an integral part of us and our very existence, and CCRCD is here to help you celebrate water all the time!

CCRCD strives to make water stewardship an everyday part of the lives of the community; from our creek and shoreline clean-ups to our educational programs, we are engaged in the health of our water every day. This year, we will spotlight our creeks and shores again and host Earth Day clean-up sites throughout Contra Costa County. Please join us as we put on our gloves, pick up our trash bags, and hit the waterways to help make a difference in the health of our watersheds! Our website will provide updated information on our clean-up sites and how you can register to participate in one of the most significant volunteer events of the year.

This is a first-of-its-kind festival in Crockett, California, on May 20th, 2023, 11 AM-6 PM. The Shoreline Festival will celebrate air, fire, water, and earth—the fundamental forces shaping our natural environment.

The festival will feature live bands, booths, children’s activities, performances, and dance troops. In addition, wine and beer tastings will take place throughout the day in a beautiful tasting tent, and a tethered, hot-air balloon ride will provide aerial views of the watershed.

The festival will support additional funding for our work in the watersheds of Contra Costa County. We are still seeking a wide array of vendors, including artisans and sustainable businesses! Please consider applying for a booth today.
