On this Page What to bring In this Site |
Being a Creek Steward Joining this program is a way to add more interest to your morning or evening walks on the creek trails. As you pay more attention to the plants, animals, or water conditions during your walk, we hope you will get to know your part of the creek a little better. Perhaps you’ll learn to identify new species, or sharpen your observation skills, or feel more in tune with the rhythms of nature around you. By sending in your observations periodically via this website, you’ll be helping to build a community record of Marsh Creek’s ecology. Your prompt reporting of any problems you see may help protect the creek or keep our community safe. Suggestions for what to wear or bring: hat, sunscreen, trash bag, mosquito repellant, camera, binoculars, pencil & observation form, wildlife ID guides, cell phone to report any problems. Print a “take-along” obsevation form What to look for: Pick whichever categories interest you most on the "take-along" form. (wildlife, plants, water conditions, etc.) You’re not obligated to make observations in all categories, or report all categories on each report (unless you’re really enthusiastic about this!) You can follow one category over time, or observe different categories on each walk. The most important thing is to enjoy your walk and become more aware conditions and changes in the Marsh Creek riparian habitat. We do hope you’ll take a trash bag and pick up litter along the trail. There’s nothing more powerful than being a good example for others! Note: Please stay on the trail. A permit and liability waiver are required before entering sloped banks or unpaved access road. These areas are the property of the Flood Control and Water Conservation District. When you Return:: Did you take photos? Dialogue On-line with other creek stewards at the "East County Connect Website” discussion page. This on-line dialogue is an extra feature we thought people would enjoy. This doesn’t take the place of sending in periodic reports.
